| TAO Sailing School is an ASA (American Sailing Association) affiliate facility in paradise. ASA certification can be achieved in the Virgin Islands, one of the best sailing locations in the world, with consistent deep waters and winds. The joys of being in the Virgin Islands are derived from the weather, water and beauty of the environment. Learning to sail, with a member of our professional team, offers the opportunity to be connected to all these elements and to enhance the pleasurable experience of clear blue skies and sunny tropical islands. The two-day Basic Keelboat course includes instruction and on-the-water hands-on sailing. This course is available in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a passionate Latin culture that is a territory of the United States. We wish to accommodate our students and are willing to make other time arrangements, if a single weekend course is not feasible to schedule. Our goal is to introduce individuals to the joy of sailing. Students typically have the ability and confidence at the end of the course to sail a keelboat locally among the islands in appropriate weather conditions. In addition, they acquire a firm foundation to continue into higher levels of sailing, cruising and racing. The Basic Keelboat lessons cover both theoretical and practical topics such as, Parts of the Boat and Sails, Tacking and Gybing, Commands, Points of Sail and Sailing Points, Lift, Man-Over-Board, Knots, Rules of the Road, Signals, Safety and other topics.
